Org Charts and Microsoft Office ® More than 90 percent of organizations supply Microsoft Office ® to their workers. Many try to make an org chart using Smart Art, and find it frustrating. Fortunately, SmartDraw integrates easily with the Microsoft Office ® suite, as well as with other popular services such as Dropbox ®, Google Drive.

The organizational chart, or organigram, is a diagram of the structure and relationships of the company or other organization. If you have Visio, you can build a huge organization histogram up to 1000 shapes with a very complex structure. SmartArt diagrams are much simple and recommended for smaller organizations, but you can add many visual effects and use Office theming for your organization. The Organization Chart Add-in for Microsoft Office programs, previously called Microsoft Organization Chart 2.0, is an add-in that you can install and then add to your documents. Organization Chart is not installed automatically when you install Office 2010, and you have to install it manually before you can use it.

  1. In the Choose a SmartArt Graphic window that opens choose the “Hierarchy” category on the left. On the right, click an organization chart layout, such as “Organization Chart.”. When you’re done, click “OK.”. Click a box in the SmartArt graphic, and then type your text. Type the text you want to replace the placeholder text.
  2. Font size, style, color etc in text boxes in org.hierarchy charts I notice that there is a preset font in each text box that does not change. I want different and I am asking why I have to reset manually to my chosen style every time I click on a new text box.

Microsoft has issued version 16.43 of Office for Mac, improving search speed in PowerPoint and patching a security feature bypass vulnerability in Excel. Excel also added the capability to refresh Power Query queries from Microsoft SQL Server; improved performance, readability, and composability with the LET function; and added support for Visio diagrams like flowcharts or organizational charts from data in a worksheet.

Microsoft Office 16.42 also introduced a new Outlook for Mac with improved performance, simplicity, and features such as a customizable toolbar, enhanced search for better results and suggestions, improved RSVP to meetings, and the capability to reply to messages without opening a new compose window. You need to turn on the New Outlook switch at the top of the Outlook window to access the refreshed email client. Start with the Organization Chart Wizard

  1. Select File > New.

  2. Select Organization Chart > Create.

  3. Select Information that I enter using the wizard, and select Next.

  4. Select the type of file you want to enter data into, type in a path and name, and select Next.

    Tip: If you select Excel, an Excel worksheet opens with sample text. If you select Delimited text, a Notepad page opens with sample information.

  5. Replace the sample text with your information.

  6. Close Excel or Notepad, complete the wizard in Visio, and select Finish.

Change the look of an org chart

  • To change the shape style, select Org Chart > More, and select a shape style.

  • To change the org chart layout, select Org Chart > Layout, and select a layout.

  • To rearrange the chart to fit the page, select Org Chart > Best Fit to Page.

  • To increase the spacing between shapes, select Org Chart > Increase the Spacing.

Add a picture to a shape

  1. Select the shape.

  2. Select Org Chart > Insert > Picture.

  3. Select the picture file.

Add a new person

  1. Select a shape that represents the person’s job description.

  2. Drag the shape onto the drawing page, and place it on top of the shape you want to connect the two.

  3. Select the Name text box, and type in the name of the new person.

  4. Select the Title text box, and type in a title for the new person.

Note: Add the person to the Excel or Notepad file you created in the Organization Chart Wizard so that it’s up to date and ready to use when you create other org charts for your team.

Add a team frame and title

  1. Select the Team frame shape.

  2. Drag it onto the drawing page.

  3. Use the resize handles to fit the Team frame shape around the shapes that represent team members.

  4. To add a team title, select Home > Text, type in the team’s name, and select Pointer Tool to finish.

  5. To change the frame's line color, select Home > Line, and select a color, line weight, and dash style.
